Farming
Puxton Park is located in the middle of Puxton Court Farm. This 73 Acre Farm is one of many on the 1623 Acre Estate surrounding Weston Super Mare. The Mead family have been farming around the area for many generations and have been open minded about how farmland and farming should develop.
All the farms have now converted to Organic farming Status certified by the Organic Food Federation. The farms are also members of Freedom Foods
For dairy herds, organic farming means that the cows have more room to graze naturally. On organic dairy farms cows must have the opportunity to graze freely and it is normal for two hectares to provide grazing for three cows. This compares to four cows usually being kept on the same area on a non organic farm where the cattle are allowed outside. There are also no pesticides and artificial fertilisers used on the land.
Organic farmers believe the greater grazing area given to their cows is not just better for their welfare, it also leads to better quality milk. Organic farming principles by definition encompass high animal welfare standards and pay great attention to improving the environmental infrastructure of the farm.
